Concrete Steps Calculator

Estimate concrete volume for steps or stairs using step count, width, rise, run, tread thickness, and waste. If you are pouring a landing too, start with the landing / pad calculator and combine totals. For timing, check the curing timeline guide.

Inputs

Tip: For formed steps, waste of 5–10% is common. For landings or complex forms, consider 10–15%.

Results

Concrete volume
0.45 yd³
12.1 ft³ • 0.34
80-lb bags (rough)
20.17
Assumes ~0.6 ft³ yield per 80-lb bag (varies by mix).

Assumptions

  • Steps are modeled as rectangular blocks with uniform rise and run.
  • Tread thickness adds a cap volume across the total run length.
  • Bag yield is an approximation; check your product label.

Example

A 4-step stair with 4 ft width, 7 in rise, and 11 in run at 10% waste is 0.45 yd³ of concrete. Adjust the tread thickness for caps or finishes.
